Tasting Notes: Proper purple-red and proudly unfiltered in hue. Fruit aromatics and winemaking’s bouquet combine. Dark fruits and red berries: black cherry, blackcurrant, cranberry, rhubarb and blueberry compote. Then, intermingled, oak spice and smoke and clove, but as if imperceptible. Fruit first, bouquet second, as pinot noir should always be. Manly, a little rustic, and bold pinot noir flavours to the fore: dark fruits brooding in the wild, wild woods. Vinous in texture and shape. More rhubarb and blackberry flavours emerge, the clean tannins and cleaner acidity roll through the mid-palate’s brighter but riper red berry flavours. Taut in structure; firm and linear; yet if you push it about your mouth a little those berry and dark fruit flavours corralled by the keen tannins burst forth again, making this a generous and yet distinguished pinot noir.

Pairing: The sum total and the changing dialogue of this living, breathing wine wants a certain robustness in the dish: duck. Your preferred Chinese equation would not be a bad place to start.
